Botanical Echoes: Modular Abstract Wood Totems
A set of three handcrafted solid wood totems (12”H, 10”H, and 6”H × 3”W), featuring 12 unique painted compositions across their faces. These substantial, heavy pieces are presented in four thematic explorations that delve into botanical and symbolic forms through warm tonal blacks and whites.
Each totem is built with rich layers of acrylic paint, collage, and selective carving, finished with thick acrylic medium to create deeply tactile, organic, timeworn surfaces with an aged patina.
The totems are fully modular — rotate and rearrange them freely to discover new interactions between the themes. Ideal for tabletops, shelves, mantels, or wall groupings.
The Four Themes:
Theme 1: Deconstructed Forms Fragmented botanical and symbolic motifs resembling ancient script or root systems breaking through the surface. Stark vertical marks and organic drips create a sense of emergence and hidden structure.
Theme 2: Organic Flux Fluid, blooming forms that appear to dissolve and drift. Soft, smoky black accumulations and petal-like shapes suggest growth, decay, and the ephemeral nature of plant life.
Theme 3: Stratified Horizons Layered, landscape-inspired abstractions with horizontal bands and dense textural passages. These evoke geological strata, eroded terrain, and the slow accumulation of time.
Theme 4: Shadowed Growth Dramatic, cascading drips and branching structures that suggest tree silhouettes, root systems, and nocturnal flora. Strong vertical flows convey energy, gravity, and raw growth emerging from darkness.
