In this intimate mixed-media portrait, a serene figure is captured in quiet profile, her gaze gently turned toward a vibrant butterfly resting in her open palm. The butterfly — a powerful symbol of transformation, hope, and fleeting beauty — becomes the emotional heart of the piece. Rendered with soft graphite lines, delicate color washes, rich charcoal tones, and touches of acrylic, the work balances ethereal lightness with deep, moody texture.

Series Concept

I’m excited to share a new open series of profile, cameo-like modern portrait paintings. These mixed-media works begin with a consistent foundational drawing that threads through the entire series, creating a quiet visual thread of continuity. From this shared contour, each piece develops its own unique emotional voice through layered applications of acrylic paint, graphite, charcoal, watercolor, collage, and delicate bits of ephemera. The recurring silhouette evokes classical cameo portraits while embracing contemporary rawness and vulnerability.  Each portrait explores themes of introspection, tenderness, transformation, and the preciousness of fleeting moments — much like the butterfly that appears in this first piece. Every work in the series is entirely handmade and one-of-a-kind.
